Beginning Steps

Learning to Connect with God

three-crosses-image

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18 (NIV)

Step 1

Salvation

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Salvation comes by faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation. If you believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins, rose from the dead three days later, and repent of your sin, you will be saved. It is that simple, but that profound. It is all an act of God’s grace toward humanity. He loves us that much!

If you want to experience forgiveness, a meaningful existence, and the sure hope of eternal life, then pray this prayer. If you really mean it, you will be saved.

“Lord Jesus. I believe you died on the cross for my sins. I believe you rose from the dead three days later and I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me for my sins and come into my life. Thank you for saving me. Now help me to walk out my faith from day to day. In your name I pray. Amen.”

Step 2

Prayer & Devotions

We encourage you to seek and grow your relationship with God by finding out what His Word has to say to you. Discover where you can read the Bible, either by a phone app, online, or a written copy. The Bible can be found in many forms and languages some optional versions to look for are the New International Version (NIV), New Living Translation (NLT), or New King James Version (NKJV).

The Christian life is a relationship with God that develops over time. Connect with God to discover how much he loves you and how our relationship with God will grow our love for Him. To grow in spiritual maturity is to look more and more like the person God designed you to be — more and more like Jesus. Your journey as you explore and learn about the answer to this question is sought daily in quiet time studying His Word, reflecting on what we learn there, journaling as you communicate to God and listen for Him to speak with you, and praying lifting your praises and requests to God.

Read Matthew chapter 6 where Jesus taught us to pray.

“This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. “ Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)

Gather your Bible, journal, and quiet spot to spend time daily with God.

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”
I Corinthians 12:12-27 (NLT)

Step 3

Connecting with Others

Get involved in a strong Bible believing church or fellowship. If you have any questions about your new found relationship with the Lord, please contact us.

Develop positive relationships within a church or fellowship by reflecting on five characteristics:

Growth

Growth is evident when people are growing in their relationships with each other and God. Seek to attend service on Sunday. Look to find ways to serve in some capacity together. Seek to find what God is calling you to do in your church or fellowship.

Responsibility

Take responsibility for your part in relationships. Don’t blame others. Reach out to others. Be the reason that people are glad to see you when you enter a room.

Positivity

Take the time to speak positive and be encouraging to one another. Hold your tongue if what you are saying is negative. Especially be kind when speaking to others. The tongue can cut like a sword or build people up. Look for the positive and blessings in every situation. Express a thankful heart for work done by others.

Lightness

When things go wrong look for the lighter side and seek it out. Humor can be found every where. Seek it and share it with each other. Be a light to someone struggling by reaching out and shining the light in the darkness.

Direct

Communicate with others by listening to them and sharing with them in your person-to-person relationships. Stop gossip or complaints. If there is a misunderstanding, don’t assume go and ask seeking to understand the situation. If there is a problem, don’t blame or complain. What can you do to help?

How do you relate to others?

Seek God about the spiritual gifts He has given you to use while serving Him and those around you.

Step

Serving

The book of Acts describes the early Christian community that centered around unity, generosity, and love. Believers shared everything they had with one another and caring for each other’s needs and sharing the good news. As our faith deepens our desire to live out our beliefs in tangible ways can impact our community through service and mission. We should view service as an integral part of our worship. Step up to embrace opportunities for selfless ministry being an encouragement to all those we serve.

Communal prayer demonstrates our faith in God’s ability to intervene. Believers come together in unity and interceding on behalf of others. A way to support believers and uplift one another in times of need.

The Holy Spirit blesses each believer with spiritual gifts to serve God and tools essential for building up the body of Christ. Spiritual gifts are meant to edification of believers and ultimately glorifying God.
